Remote-First Flexibility? In this economy? At STX Next? Yes!

How Remote-First Really Works at STX Next? Let’s be real: in IT, remote work wasn't born in 2020. But that year definitely shifted it from a 'nice-to-have' benefit into a global standard. At STX Next, we didn't just wait for the world to catch up; we’ve spent the last six years perfecting a remote-first culture that actually works for the long haul. So, here’s the real deal on how we handle it at STX Next.

Talent Acquisition in Europe & Mexico

  • Europe & Mexico Base: STX Next was born in Amsterdam (fun fact!), grew its roots in Poznań, Poland, and expanded to Mexico with an office in Mérida four years ago. Our colleagues are located in Germany, the UK, Spain, Madeira, Portugal, Serbia even though we don't have an office there!
  • 100% Online: Everything from the first interview to signing via Autenti is digital.
  • B2B Support: If you need help setting up your local business entity, we’ve got your back.

With people spread from Europe to Mexico, we stay lean and practical:

We match developers to projects where the time overlap makes sense. If you’re in Europe working for a US client, we adjust so it works for everyone. Our ecosystem relies on Google Meet, Slack, and Outline. Every Nexter has access to Gemini Pro, and we’ve integrated a custom AI Buddy into Slack. Whether you need to summarize a complex architectural discussion or find a specific internal resource, our AI tools handle the friction so you can stay in the flow.

Want to operate from another country?

We have a clear way for when you want to take your work across borders. The rule is simple: Always notify your coordinator.

  • Green Light Countries: If you're working from EEA countries or our "acceptance list" (includes: UK, Switzerland, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Argentina, New Zealand, and more), no additional action is required.
  • The 2-Week Rule: Want to work from somewhere else (like the US or Mexico)? If it's up to 2 weeks, you're good to go - no extra paperwork.
  • Longer Stays: If you're planning to stay longer than 2 weeks in a country not on the list, we just go through a quick verification and security check. It’s about keeping you and our data safe.

“For me, remote work means having deep focus. When I’m in my room, whether in Spain or Poland, I can really get into a flow state. I view the office differently; it’s our place for building relationships, having one-on-one meetings, or enjoying a team lunch. It’s where we exchange deep work for deep bonding.” Agnieszka, Project Manager at STX Next

The Hardware

You get to pick your own setup. We send out a survey before you start - MacBook or Dell? Backpack, headphones, monitor? You choose. The equipment is sent and drops it off within 2 days before you start.

With a laptop, and necessary accessories you will get a T-shirt, a water bottle, a notebook as a Nexters Pack. Additionally we plant a tree through posadzimy.pl and you will get a certificate from it - yes, you will become a tree owner!

“The support at STX Next is not just a bot or a ticket number. It’s a real person ready to help you. Whether there’s a hardware issue or you can’t remember where to find something in our internal systems, the assistance is quick. You can tell that the 'remote module' is built to support you, no matter where you are.”

Nexters Engagement - based on Real Examples

Our Slack is where the actual community lives. It’s not just for JIRA alerts (but you can also find them there); it’s where we find our tribes:

  • The Essentials: #pets and #cats (the most active channels, obviously), and #music.
  • The Tech & Hobbies: #AI-POWERED-SD for the latest in tech, #gaming, #hardware, and #plansze-rpgi for the board game nerds.

And even more! But what about the actions?

Cezary Pukownik, our Data Engineering Lead, breaks down how he keeps the vibe alive in a remote setup:

"I make it a point to have a 1-on-1 with every person individually - it’s a space to talk about what’s actually important to them. For the whole area, we have biweekly syncs that we usually combine with a Lightning Talk to keep the knowledge flowing.

We also have a 'Book Club' for anyone who wants to join - we pick a book, read it, and then meet up to tear it apart and discuss the ideas. But honestly? The most effective thing is just common goals. I like pairing people up to help each other on specific projects. It creates a 'web' of mutual help and real relationships, rather than just a list of avatars on a screen."

Are there any in-person ways to integrate?

Internal meetings: The area coordinators or project leads organise touchpoint meetings once in a while (usually once per quarter), depending on availability and the client. The goal is to get to know each other better and bond through various activities.

Twice a year, we host Summer and Holiday parties for people in Europe in Poznan. Those are the few times we swap the Slack avatars for real-life conversations and meetings face-to-face.

For most of the world, remote work started as a total accident. But looking back at our team today - with 98% of us collaborating from across Europe, Mexico, and the US - it’s clear that this "accident" turned into something pretty incredible. It’s a level of freedom and excellence that we’re proud to share.
